selmaSELMA, Alabama – Vice President Joe Biden stood at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge today and told a crowd of around 4,000 that as a college student 48 years ago he watched television news coverage of the attack on civil rights marchers attempting to cross the bridge on March 7, 1965.

“What we saw that day was entrenched racism coming face-to-face with individuals of absolute courage and determination. … You faced a wall of hatred,” said Biden. “… By God did you show courage.”

Biden said he has always felt a sense of regret for not having been at the bridge that “Bloody Sunday” in 1965.
